Eating only fresh produce makes a girl go crazy!

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

I went two and a half weeks before going completely crazy. Not knowing if I wanted the natural sugar from fruit, or the processed sugar from a two pound bag of M&M’s. I almost felt like I was tricking myself into feeling the natural sugars from the fruit were awakening my body. Even if I don’t feel sluggish after “clean eating”, I don’t want to feel “out-of-the-loop” about how my body and brain are processing the natural sugars.

I got so confused that I slowly decided to add sugar back into my diet - yes, the processed kind. starting out with once a week (on a Saturday) but then it evolved to Saturday and Sunday, and then it evolved to all day Saturday.

Total weekend binging. That is NOT what life should be, and is not healthy. Even telling myself that vegan doughnuts don’t REALLY count, is delusional.

Food packaging is getting smaller

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

{UPDATE} Chip bags are getting larger as well! Say goodbye to America getting somewhat thinner. I knew we couldn’t let go of the bulk.

We have all noticed that packages of ice cream, cereal and others have been shrinking, but I just noticed something. Pop (soda, cola to others) is growing! From 20 ounces to 24 ounces, the soda companies are hitting low with their enlarged, skinnier look.

Most of you know that packaging is everything and helps you to subconsciously decide on what to buy. Making the bottles of pop skinnier and taller will, by far help corporate sales. If you see a skinny product, your mind will relate it to being skinny, therefore tricking you into buying that product. I should know. I’ve been tricked before, and I will be tricked again! Deep down inside, I am shamelessly a whore for packaging. Blame it on the artist inside of me.

The bottle of pop sitting on my desk is mocking me. Sure, it’s thin and attractive but it won’t melt the pounds away on my waist. Instead it will add pounds, laughing all the way to the recycle bin.

Try to start paying attention in the grocery store. Don’t let the packaging on products  rule your decisions. It might be stout and round but it might be the healthier choice in the end.

Let’s go bananas!

Monday, April 13th, 2009

From banana breads, cakes and smoothies, bananas are a great natural source of potassium. Not to mention they are a delicious quick snack for the on-the-go gal or guy! I love bananas in smoothies, they always give that extra boost of flavor. Tell me what your favorite banana recipes are. Here is a link to my grandma’s chocolate chip banana muffins. Have fun and remember to experament. I hear blueberries are a fantastic addition to banana bread.
