I want to go to the gym, but I don’t want to get sick.

Fall has arrived! Wilting trees lining the streets introduce their reds, oranges and golds to the world and the smell of snow becomes all too familiar through out the short-lived days.

Fall also means cold and flu season. No matter what I do, I always get a cold at the beginning of the season. Luckily, I have been able to avoid the flu, but with many concerns around us this year, I don’t want to take the chance of getting something worse than the common head cold. And with avoiding catching anything greater than a head cold, it means staying out of the public eye.

My TV isn’t mocking me as much as I thought. Does it not love me the way I love it?

Day one of my whole Bikini Bootcamp/read more/do more went off….alright. I wasn’t able to finish reading what I needed to in the BBC book on Sunday, so it left me hanging today. However, I was able to drag myself, along with my husband to the gym for half an hour. And let me tell you, it felt great! Even though I didn’t get started on BBC, I feel good about my jump start to the week with my workout at the gym. I also found out that I can read while on the elliptical. I was afraid I might get motion sickness, but it never really bothered me. Now, I can read one of my “guilty pleasure” books at the gym, and when at home, I can read my BBC book, or Naturally Thin, or whatever else I have that will enrich my life with healthy habits and scrumptious recipes.

You might be wondering if my TV came back serenading me with the latest love song melting out of  a boombox strapped above its screen. Well, sort of. But I only paid attention to it for a couple of hours. The rest of the time was done making dinner, cleaning, and baking banana bread. Oh, and writing this post. I am realizing more and more that the shows in TV land are not more important than the shows going on in my real life-land. My life is already becoming more enriched and feel like I am giving more time to loved ones rather than keeping one ear to the TV and the other to them.

Tomorrow, I will start Bootcamp. However, it’s going to be difficult following everything line by line, since I don’t have the ingredients to make most of the recipes they enlist for you to eat through out each day. But, I will be able to do the 30 minutes to an hour walking and the circuit training and yoga moves. I think that’s a great start. Just because I can’t do everything starting out, I am not going to let it get me down. At least I can incorporate 90% and work my way up to 100% as the days go on.

Good luck to those of you doing the same. You might not be going through the same work out regime I am, but I have found you need the same mentality to start anything new. And that is to not worry if you can’t do it all. Take what you can and work up to include the rest. Pay attention to what your body is telling you. And try to ignore your body when it’s telling you to drive to the nearest Starbucks for a Venti Frappacino with extra whipped cream. Did you know that there are 8 cafes within a 2 mile radius of my work? That’s a lot of empty calorie temptations - and just from cafes! As you are thinking about how to ignore the cravings, get up from your desk and make some lemon water, tea or chew a piece of gum. If you find it difficult to keep everything in order and your mind is twirling around, write your feelings down. You  might find that those cravings are just that. Cravings. And once you figure out why you might have these feelings, they will be gone and you can go about your day. Writing everything down will also bring more accountability to your new lifestyle.

Take care!
